Down Another 3- January 18,2013
Weighed in again yesterday. So excited. Lost another 3 pounds (7 total since January 2) and 4 more inches. Yeah!
I've always thought losing weight was hard. That's why I never tried. I thought you always had to "do diets" because that's all I would hear about- this diet, that diet, etc. Then everyone I knew that "dieted" always failed at it, so I figured "why try?" I have actually always felt pretty good about myself and didn't ever feel as big as I was/am anyway. My weight has never really stopped me from doing anything I want to do, and all of my health screenings have turned out ok. Never had high cholesterol or high blood pressure. My sugar is in check- never been high even after I eat sweets. My triglycerides have always been within limits. Everything health wise always checked out except my weight, so I figured "why try and fail like everyone else."
Then last year my office mate had a gastric sleeve surgery. She was obsessed about getting thin and watching calories, etc. I started out doing the 3 day cardio diet as a way to support her, then I found out that it worked. I was actually losing weight and not going hungry. I was impressed. I decided to start walking on the treadmill. At first I could barely walk 3/4 mile at 2.2 mph (no incline). I was really out of shape and realized then how out of shape I was. I was disappointed in myself to say the least. I kept being persistent and worked my way up to 2 "fat burner sessions" on the treadmill which is at 3 mph with variations of incline up to 6. I was impressed and encouraged to do more and do better. I also stopped doing the 3 day cardio diet every week and started doing my own meal plan. The 3 day cardio taught me about portion size and healthy foods. I still use the principles I learned, but don't follow the plan exactly.
I was doing great and lost 60 pounds total in the first half of 2012. Then, the treadmill broke at the gym at my apartments and the temps got hot (summer). My husband started complaining about the healthy food, so I have up for the last half of the year. Since I slacked with the healthy eating and exercise, I gained almost 20 pounds back. I was really disappointed in myself.
That's why I decided 2013 was gonna be my year to get healthy and stick to it. I'm not doing the 3 day cardio plan, but using the principles I learned to eat right. I'm using the myfitnesspal app to log in everything I eat/drink to count the calories, fat, protein, etc. (even mints) if it goes in my mouth, its logged. Even when I allow myself cheats, they're logged. I started back in the gym. I'm going slow because I had knee issues last year. (Cortisone injection worked wonders) I'm only doing one "fat burner session" a day on the treadmill. At first when I started 2 weeks ago, I had to lower the speeds and inclines. In just a few months, I had slid back to the point where I couldn't do one session (when I had been doing two) the way it was programmed in the treadmill. I was surprised at my loss in stamina and again disappointed in myself because I did so well for so many months last year. I'm proud to say that since I've been faithful everyday for 2 weeks, I CAN do the preprogrammed fat burner session and even ADD speed and incline. What a great feeling to know that in 2 weeks time I can do something I couldn't do 2 weeks ago, and even exceed at it. :) That alone is motivating, but of course the 7 pounds shed helps too.
I've never used protein powders or anything because I was scared I'd "bulk up", but I decided to try finally try one. I got the Pure Protein Vanilla Cream flavor. It's only got 15 grams of protein and I had a coupon which made it $4. :) A friend at work mentioned that she used a similar (more expensive) protein and mixed it with chocolate almond milk (which I had a coupon for as well). I decided to try it. The first time I made it, I put a banana in it because I never seem to get enough potassium. It was good, but not something I want to drink everyday. I decided to try a spoon of Honey Roasted Peter Pan instead if the banana. Yum! That's it!!!! I now drink one every morning before work. It's 310 calories (which I A LOT) but I'm not hungry until lunch. All I do is mix 8 oz Chocolate Almond Milk, one scoop of vanilla protein powder, 1 spoon of peanut butter, and lots of ice in the blender. I put enough ice to where its real thick like a milkshake. It's so yummy and lasts me until I have lunch. I don't drink any if it until I get to work and sip on it for over an hour. Try it. It's so good and you feel like you're cheating. :) Next I'll try the unsweetened chocolate almond milk because its 80 calories less. Never heard of unsweetened chocolate milk, but I'll give it a whirl. :)
Guess I'll stop writing for now. Time to hit the treadmill. So until next time- peace out and stay healthy!!!

Making Progress
Today was weigh in day. I've lost 4 pounds and 4.5 inches (1.5 in waist alone) I'm so psyched. I guess having no life except work and the gym is paying off. Haha. I've enjoyed the exercising and eating right. I'm getting my energy back and I can feel my mood improving. (Most of the time- depends on the moment.)
The saying by Eleanor Roosevelt below is so true. I'm in the shape I'm in now (overweight) because of the choices I've made in 42 years of yesterdays. I want to look back at this time next year and be impressed with my 365 yesterdays of 2013. I not only want to make the right decisions for my physical body, but also my spiritual and emotional self too. I only have one body and its up to me to take care of it. If I don't, I can't rely on it when I'm older.
Guess I better get off here and go walk. Walk. Walk. And. Walk some more to get these pounds and inches off. Peace out for now.

Great start.
So..... I restarted my new lifestyle January 2, 2013. I've been at it for 5 days. I've been eating better and working out everyday. I'm already feeling better. I haven't weighed in yet, but definitely feel better about myself already. Here are my before shots. Hope to be able to post updated pics periodically to show my progress.
